“Hullabaloo” – The Film That Changed My Life

The Importance of Diversity in Media

Diversity is a huge, important part of our society and it is needed in everything. This can be seen in all aspects of our lives including media. Why is it important to have diversity in media? It allows us to see different perspectives which can make us more open-minded, respectful and accepting of other people and cultures. Having media that isn’t diverse can also lead to people feeling isolated because they don’t see many people like themselves represented in media. It’s important for all of us to see ourselves in media and to remember that we are important and valued no matter who we are.

Hullabaloo: A Story About Bullying and Difference

Hullabaloo is about a young elephant growing up in India who is bullied for being different. Her Indian elephant parents don’t understand why she is being bullied, her African elephant friend doesn’t understand why she is being bullied, and her human elephant friend doesn’t understand why she is being bullied. Trying to understand differences and standing up for those who are being bullied (or bullied themselves) are the central themes of this film. Watching this film as a young girl changed my life forever and taught me a lot about being kind and accepting of others.

Why Is Diversity Important?

Sure, we all want to make films that are great and are entertaining and are powerful. But, why is it so important to make films that represent people of different races and cultures and identities? It’s important for a few reasons. Representation can help to reduce the amount of bullying that people of certain races experience. Representation can help to ease the amount of judgment that people of certain cultures experience. Representation can help people to see themselves in media and to know that they are valued no matter who they are.

Conclusion

We can learn a lot from the successful filmmakers of the past. One filmmaker who stood out to me was Alexander Mackendrick. In the 1950’s, he made some of the most successful films of the era including “The Red Badge of Courage”, “The Mackintosh Man”, and “The Incredible Journey”. What was so impressive about his work was the way he used characters of different races and cultures to tell stories about strength and bravery. For me, Mackendrick’s work embodies the best part of independent cinema.
His films are remarkable. They are true classics that deserve to be studied and appreciated by many people. In watching them over and over again, I have been able to learn a lot about filmmaking, about human nature, and about life. In my opinion, there is nothing better than studying the work of successful filmmakers and seeing what they did right and what they could change in order to make their work even better.
